Window shopping: Jimmy Choo for H&M

No matter what time or weather it is, or where I am - as long as it's in Manhattan, Williamsburg, DUMBO or Astoria - I always, always walk home from work. Also, when given the opportunity, I will be sure to window shop along the way, figuring out how to spend the check I just made!

Yesterday, after slaving away on Gossip Girl all day, I got out right before midnight and, heading home from the UES, happened to stumble upon the H&M window display on 50-something & Lex - crammed with cheap Jimmy Choo! I must have been so busy lately, I completely forget this diffusion line is released on Saturday...!

As anyone in the whole world with an internet connection knows by now, the plenitude of leaked photos of the collection has clearly hinted that most of the footwear is nothing but boring low-budget versions of the main house line. Nothing to see here, except for bigger blisters and more frequent trips to the cobbler! I could feel the pesky, plastic straps digging into my ankles just from looking at these shoes!

While my personal preference would be to hit a consignment store for an authentic, albeit gently used pair of Choos, rather than to spend $150-200 on something from a watered-down diffusion label, I will however admit at least most of these H&M heels are very pretty (check out my favorite below)! The clothing, on the other hand, left me completely unimpressed - the pieces looked old and tired, sort of like something that Carmela Soprano would wear to a Lions Club dinner. Or if you wish.... something that the GG costume department would put the 40+ background in for a gala scene. I would know - I just witnessed it with my own eyes, right?!

I cannot imagine I will be lining up for the launch on Saturday.... but I might swing by the Lex and 5th Ave stores, just to take stalker pictures of people who do! And if the pair above is not sold out in size 9, and my boyfriend is not around to stop me, I might get down from my high horse and consider an acquisition... if not anything else, I bet that royal blue box will be great for storing scarves and chunky jewelry. :)

  1. Hahahaha! I love that line... the royal blue box will be great for storing scarves and chunky jewelry.

I'm intrigued by this collaboration but I thought to myself, I want to know from someone who actually saw the items if they are worth some sleepless nights. And based on your opinion (which I consider an expert's advice), they are not that good. Thanks a lot!

  2. Better to save for pieces you love. Glad to see you getting a small break from work to blog. Hope all is well! :O)

  3. Yea...I don't get the diffusion lines either! Just save up for the real thing, wait for a sample sale, or buy vintage.

  5. I can't wait for the collection to come out tomorrow. I probably won't be lining up either, but it will be fun to see everyone queuing up.

  6. i'm mildly unimpressed with this line. i like the shoes but not loving the clothes entirely. plus i don't think it's that much of a savings ;P

  9. Well, I'm glad to know I'm not missing much (there is no H&M near me). :)

  10. ahaha i always love your posts. quite agree, i would never make it fighting with the massive amount of people, crazy and at times violent girls. i'll just wait until it dies down for the jewelry. while i do like the collection, nothing jumps out at me and i would like to own a pair of real jimmy choos one day. good luck getting that one pair you've got your eye on and have a great weekend!

  11. It's so wonderful to read this after the brief post I did on it, especially with your eye. The blue boxes *are* amazing though, what a vibrant color. It is sure to be quite the frenzy however, I imagine most of it will go quickly.

Another great post Miss Cookie! May your weekend be filled with smiles,

  13. Can I just take the box?

Seriously, that collection left me bored to tears.

Except for that pair of shoes, but I'd rather have the real thing in that case.

  14. I'm not sure about this collection... too expensive for H&M but too bad of a quality for Jimmy Choo...
    have a lovely weekend, darling!

  17. I have to admit, the royal blue is such a gorgeous complement to the ebony hues - I would definitely be thrilled to simply have one of those boxes in my possession for storing scarves and jewelry!

I, obviously, will not be seeing this collection in person anytime soon for there is no H&M located near me - surprise surprise. I will have to remain content gazing upon the adverts in ELLE. :/

  18. Thanks for sharing your window shopping! I need to get into the city asap and see everything for myself.

  19. I'm so with you on that. I walked by the windows yesterday - a day before the launch - and everything just looked so cheap and tacky. I think they somehow managed to pick the most 'bling' clothes to put on display, so it just looked like something a misguided teenager would wear to a party. I think one or two of the shoes (incl. the ones you posted) are great, but having seen Choos go on sale for about the same price or less during sales, in outlets or vintage, I agree that getting an H&M produced version doesn't really make sense.

I'll probably swing by next week to see what's left, but definitely didn't wait in line today! Hope you're having a great weekend!

  20. Man you are so lucky to live there! Just because NY is an amazing city in general and the fact that the JC x HM collection isn't at the store here.

  21. I really really can't be bothered with it! It just looks cheap.

  22. Don't even like the "expensive" Jimmy Choo shoes because I think that *they* look cheap . . . This brand has achieved its acclaim through savvy marketing, I think, not good looks.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm can't wait to check these out, but totally agree with you - I would rather get the real thing even if gently used.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This reminds me...I need to stop by my local H&M and see what they have. You've seen the preview pics for the Sonia Rykiel lingerie collection H&M is releasing next month, yes?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah, the line really seems like a disappointment, which makes it easy on me because it's one less thing I'll have to spend my cash on :).

  26. Window shopping is always fun, but finding great products to invest in is even better. Enjoyed reading your thoughts on the Jimmy Choo collaboration. The blue boxes are definitely an added bonus to the purchase.

  27. You know how I feel about collabs these days, none of the shoes struck me as worth it. The only things that were semi cute are some of the clutches. Carmela is in heaven!

  28. I was in H&M yesterday but only during the afternoon and it was still madness! I picked up a pair of shoes, had a look, and as soon as i put them down this crazy girl came and grabbed them, clutching them to her chest, looking at me as if I had stolen from her.
I found the pink box clutch lying on some shelf looking lonely and pretty so I gave it a home :)it was my only buy.

  29. Here in Milan there were people waiting in front of the H&M from five in the morning for the opening.. Loving the pieces too though!

Wish you a nice sunday darling!

  30. haha yesss
    i did not line up
i mean yeah, i know its jimmy choo but i wasn't that impressed with what he was gonna put forward. Rather underwhelmed, considering he is a fashion great! There are some goodies for sure though :)

  31. Despite my recent post, I would never, ever buy any designer collaboration at a fashion chain. I would hold out for the real thing, even if were from eBay or a consignment store or whatever. Personally, I don't see the point in buying cheap things because it has a name that should indicate quality on it (but it's not quality). But I understand why designers do it because it's (a) flattering but mostly (b) times are tough and you have to get money and raise brand awareness where you can. So if they ever came for me, I definitely wouldn't be too high-and-mighty to sign on.

Am going to check out H&M today just in case there is something worth having (maybe a clutch?)...

  34. Whilst I too am far to stuck up to be seen dead with a h&m clutch - the oversize clutches looked like they were made of cardboard! I did buy a pair of the leggings and fur vest. What I loved was seeing so many teenage girls hugging their shoes with glee, that to me makes the diffusion line well worth it. There is no way any of them could afford Choos on sale, or even second hand. So it really made some dreams come true.

  35. hmm... I don't like H&M, but I do love jimmy choos. But I do rather have the normal Choos than the H&M ones... besides, I hate the mess and crowd in H&M stores...

    Have a great week ahead!

  38. That is the funniest thing! I was reading your blog, ready to leave a comment when I lost my internet connection. The moment it turned back on, I got an email on my iphone that you had left a comment on one of my blogs. My day has been filled with coincidences.
Anyway, I wanted to say that not only do you have good taste, you are super clever to not wait in line for a launch. But, I do hope that you took some stalker photos of those who did. Now, that's entertaining!

  42. I agree; i'd rather save up or buy a regular jimmy choo pair on consignment than buy a poorly made version from H&M. a lot of the other pieces from the collection do look really cute though!

  45. its not a secret that im not a huge fan of jimmy's because i dont find their design to exciting. its kinda 2 classic for me. and i thought it was funny when they named their shoes croatia, and when being asked what was inspiration they said africa. croatia and africa? hm... call me crazy but i dont see how these 2 connect. h & m. good afordable clothes, but... man... its not quality at all. and i saw jimmy for h&m, and im with you on your bet choice, i actully like them 2... but plastic/fantastic-i dont think that those shows are made for walking.

  46. I can't believe how many women threw themselves at this collabo as if they shoes were indeed free99. If ladies were smart and patient enough, get that shit on sale for 200. I meant honestly, that's just bad shopping. I did however buy a piece from the mens line, the grey tee. It's really great cotton and I love how sheer it is/the draping. No desire that it's "Jimmy Choo" because let's face it, Choo doesn't make clothes. But if people just got past the name, they'd realize 90% of the collection isn't worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. idk if thats worth or not, guess im just super cheap person haha
