Not your typical day in the office

The last couple of days have been absolutely insane, mostly due to my current gig on a much awaited and extremely expectations-ridden movie. As usual on set, there is lack of sleep, constant foot pain, greasy food (that I am trying not to touch) and ridiculously long days - we clocked in at 6:30AM yesterday, left at midnight and are going back ASAP when the sun rises today.

On the upside, however, there is also fantastic makeup, wildly weird hairstyles and, above all, a plethora of the most amazing fashions. The wardrobe collection spans neon PVC dresses, horsehair headpieces, armour bustiers, sequined jumpsuits, prints that you can't stop staring at, flapper glitter fringes, architectural heels, classic designer stilettos and all kinds of funky accessories.... being on set feels like watching a kitschy runway show, with the pieces being "modeled" by cynical, meal penalty counting SAG actors on the one hand, and starry-eyed non-union first-timers on the other.

What we all have in common, though, is a complete lack of shame pairing our glittery, ruffled, beaded getups with mis-matched footwear such as flip-flops, UGGS or even fuzzy indoor slippers, whenever a 5-minute break is getting called. Yes, that includes me. But before you judge, try walking in my Manolos for 17 hours straight. I might go barefoot today!

Below: outfit extravaganza.

  1. Thank you for taking us along on this exciting adventure. I can't think of anything more fun than what you're doing! What does "meal penalty counting" mean? Are they penalized somehow for eating?

  2. Wow, you are fast! Production has to pay extra fees to union members if the first meal of the day is being served later than 6 hours after call time. I always laugh at how people seem to be obsessed with counting meal penalties...! I'd rather have lunch on time than some extra dollars in my pocket, since I get so cranky when I don't eat! :)

  3. Sounds like the ultimate dream job! What's more exciting than getting to play dress up all day. Go home and soak your feet in some Epsom salt lady!

  8. To work in an office like yours would be so unbelievably thrilling. If only I didn't suffer from such severe stagefright I would have contemplated going into acting - it sounds so much more enjoyable than sitting behind a desk - unless you're blogging of course! Hope you're having a good time; don't work too hard! :)

  27. It so annoys me when paparazzi take pictures of someone on the set of a movie, and that someone is giving her feet a rest in Uggs, and people are like, "That's a terrible outfit!" I mean, obviously it's like you said. They're dressed in their wardrobe and taking a little break!

  46. Finally done for this week! I got 10.5 hours of sleep between Monday 5AM and Friday 5PM... so not much time for blogging or reading other people's posts and comments. Sorry! :(

    I will catch up now!
