Shopping your closet: Kate Spade Copycat

I just love that Kate Spade finally took the step and created a RTW collection... and she did a marvellous job, too! The ad that was everywhere in fashion mags a while ago was adorable (yah, on the right if you've been under a rock lately and missed it!)

The collection, that formidably oozes mod-era/60s, features
everything from skirts, tops and leggings to jackets, hats and any accessory you could wish for - and shoes, of course! Not that this is news to anyone by any means: it's just that I stopped by at the 5th Avenue store earlier tonight after work and was so blown away now when I was finally face to face with the whole collection, that I felt like venting a little here on my blog. I had to fight so hard not to pull out my poor MasterCard (again)! In my world, you can never own too many shift minis or pairs of bright tights Blair Waldorf style -- even though I am always debating with myself whether I can really pull those off or not.

Sadly, Kate is a little out my budget right now... However, not to worry! I recently read somewhere that one of the WGSN editors had said she does not care anymore if what she wears is a little last season, as long as it looks good. Of course, this has been my philosophy for years... glad the rest of the world is finally catching up, even though it took the recession from hell for it to happen! Reminding myself how stylish it is to save, I went straight home and shopped my closet to create the look below using nothing but pieces from past seasons -- heavily inspired by Kate but not a total knockoff...!

  • Ivory crochet dress with cap sleeve and black silk sash -- Tibi, fall 2007
  • Red tights -- American Apparel, timeless
  • Black patent flats with buckle -- Delia's, fall 2007
  • Color block black/white purse -- Furla, I forget how old....
  • Necklace -- craft shop in Namibia
  • Earrings -- Pilgrim
  • Ring -- craft shop in Bergen, Norway
I would not at all mind taking this outfit out on the town paired with a Rodarte biker jacket and a pair of black suede booties (Loubotin and Zanotti immediately come to mind)! 'Cuz just because you love your out-of-season stuff, it does not in any way mean you're not craving current pieces as well... unfortunately.

  8. Hugs back to you, and everyone else who pops in here and reads my blog!

The Tibi dress is one of my favorites: I've been checking temperatures anxiously because I want to start wearing it again. I'm tired of denim cutoffs and tery sundresses now! :D

  16. you are the second blog i've read today that has posted that it's a positive thing to hold on to last seasons clothes if you like them.

i couldn't agree more, i think people should create their own style and not be overly influenced by the fashion mags.

    great post! :)
